Milestones to Becoming Destin’s Essential Transportation Resource
Kelly Coleman Field was established in the late 1950s by Coleman Kelly. The original terminal building and flight service station was built in 1963. Okaloosa County Airport Administration was granted the property in January 1964 by the Kellys and was called Destin/Fort Walton Beach Airport. It was renamed Destin Executive Airport when the commercial service airport at VPS was re-named to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. The County has since added apron space and connector taxiways and, in 2007, an additional terminal was constructed.
In 2017, the Air Traffic Control Tower was constructed to improve the safety of the airspace.
